Tasks and responsibilities:
The safety officer is responsible for the safety of workers in the track area. During construction and maintenance work on railway lines, they ensure that employees are warned of approaching trains and protected.
The main tasks include:
- Monitoring of the track section where work is being carried out
- Warning employees of approaching trains (acoustic or visual)
- Communication with the security supervisor or security coordinator
- Control and compliance with safety regulations
- Reporting of hazards or deviations
Work environment:
Safety officers work predominantly outdoors, often in all weather conditions, in shifts, and also at night or on weekends. They are frequently deployed to changing locations – wherever work is being carried out in the track area.

Education / Qualifications:
Qualification is achieved through internal training at Deutsche Bahn or at certified training providers. This includes theoretical and practical training in:

- First aid and emergency management
Upon successful completion, one receives the authorization to serve as a security guard.
Regular refresher training is mandatory.
